Foam, radiant barrier, and fiberglass are all good choices to insulate an attic with. When used together, use achieve an extremel energy efficient attic. Since this is where a home loses most of its energy, your best investment for additional insulation is here.

fakiir wrote"standard radiant barrier sheathing does the same job, possibly cheaper, but you dont get the benefit of sealing all the tiny cracks." Radiant barrier adds about 300 dollars to a job, foam about 10,000, just so you know you fckn moron. And since most of the country isnt dumb enough to put their hvac in the attic, insulating it would be a complete waste in most of the homes in the country. A 10,000 dollar waste.

Ive built more homes than youve seen in your life. I was there at the trade shows when foam tried becoming popular in the seventies. I have hired more than one professional energy auditor to run savings numbers on foam. They say the same thing, most climates in the US do NOT justify using foam, the cost will take too long to repay itself. And only retarded deuschebags on youtube think its the re-invented wheel of insulation.

spoken like a person who has never built a home or any sort of structure. combustion air vents are tiny, compared to all the radiant heat you can block from the roof by putting foam between the rafters (standard radiant barrier sheathing does the same job, possibly cheaper, but you dont get the benefit of sealing all the tiny cracks.) go study a little physics, especially the part about heat flow and thermodynamics, then try again.

Why not explain bringing in combustion air!! Basically you can foam your attic tight, and then you have to poke big holes in it to bring your combustion appliance fresh air, negating the whole purpose. Foam is a waste people, ignore all of these foam fools, it has been around for 40years and the only places you see it used is on youtube, and in custom jobs where the customer doesnt know any better.
