Perhaps you have a “Day Labor” site, where you can hire some people to do the job cheap? A cheap dust mask might be a good idea. That insulation is very harmful on a microscopic level. Remember, all smells are particulate!! Looks like you left the Hard part for last. Good job, and stay warm.

It does. the problem is it easily breaks apart so once it’s down it’s down.
yeah, nasty job but finally finished now. yeah it was a great deal and I still have 4 rolls left over. They will even buy it back off me for £1 each
yes, should be warm now. To be honest the new stuff is “nastier” than the old yellow fibre glass stuff in terms of irritant.
Yeah, retired people here get it for free. I think that is what was up there originally. An old guy liced in my house before me. he got cavity wall insulation too for free. But when these companies do it they don;t pay much attention to detail and just throw it around instead of laying it properly.
No problem, keep your eyes open, there are new deals going on all the time with the utility companies and you don’t need to even be a customer to get them.

To be honest Mr C it was one of those jobs where I preferred to do it myself. I know I would be careful up there. I wasn’t too keen on some fat guy standing on my joists and weakening them.The stuff came with a mask, goggles and gloves. I couldn’t wear the goggles though, they made me claustrophobic

WOW Swipe!! what a job! You were not kidding around there with insulating. Man, I am in the same situation over here, my house was built in 1947 and has little to no insulation. 
and I am not all about breathing the fiberglass dust either. Major props to you for pulling it off, and all within 8 hours.
As far as fun weekends go, it’s hard to beat one spent laying down attic insulation! I’m sure that you’re glad to have this job crossed off your DIY punch list.
I found this type of attic insulation a few years back that I could just roll out in my attic and not touch the fiberglass. It had some kind of thin plastic around it. It was like two inches thick and then after you rolled it out it kept growing and growing to over a foot thick.
Great stuff but as I recall it wasn’t cheap.
I hope you wore your mask!!! No fun sneezing out black, dusty fibres for the following 2 days (voice of experience here lol).

Thanks Mike. Sounds like you could really benefit from it too. It was bloody hard work though. Hopefully when I get my huge lounge window replaced in 2 weeks (seals have blown) I should really feel the benefit.

Hi M. Yes wore the mask off cam all the time. as you can see I had to ditch my glasses though, they kept steaming up. Yes, especially when we’ve probably paid for it 10 times over already in “green taxes” or at least will do over the next couple of years. They are taking this enviro stuff way too far now.

Nice job Swipe. I’m halfway through my loft project now, and if you thought your loft was a mess, you should’ve seen mine! My roof doesn’t have any felt so I had years of dust, tile chips and wasps nests…
Hi Dave, It’s an awful job but worth it in the end. I’d hate to think how much heat i would have lost over this cold spell.
